Puppy Care – Helping your Puppy Feel more Comfortable
Getting a new puppy is a very exciting thing, especially for families that have kids. They would want to see the puppy and play with it all day. Although puppies may be naturally full of energy and curious, some puppies have a hard time adjusting to their new environment. This could affect how they sleep and eat and may cause permanent damage to their growth, making them prone to genetic diseases like DM in dogs in the future. It’s best to help it adjust as easily and as fast as it can. Below are some tips to help your puppy feel more at home faster.
Get the house ready
Before you bring the puppy home, you have to make sure that the house is cleaned and well arranged. The puppy should be given its own space, so get it a mat or even a dog bed where it can rest and sleep. If there are rooms in the house that you don’t want the puppy to go, then place a child fence at the door.
Let it explore
Once the puppy arrives at the house, let it wander around and know its new environment a little better. It might mark its territory so get ready to clean it up and lay down some newspapers. It will be important to toilet train the puppy a few days after taking it home.
House rules
It’s important that you establish house rules as early as the first few days. Your puppy needs to know where it can eat, where it should sleep, which rooms he or she is not allowed in, just to name a few. If your puppy misbehaves, it’s best to take it to a small holding pen, and place it there for a few minutes as a form of punishment.
Treats
Give your puppy a treat each time it does something good, such as going to the bathroom outside or not biting on the table legs. Positive reinforcement and prizes are the best ways of encouraging good behavior in puppies. Give your puppy treats that have vitamins and minerals added to them. This helps keep them in good shape, grow at the right pace and avoid illnesses like DM in dogs when they grow up.
Let it play
Let your puppy play. Let it run around the house as this allows it to familiarize itself with other people and animals that are living with you. If you have kids, let them spend time playing together.

Picking Out a Healthy Puppy
Choosing a puppy is one of the most difficult tasks dog lovers will encounter. Just looking at the puppy may not be enough to tell you how healthy it is. You don’t want to end up choosing a puppy and losing it after a year of two because of illness. Below are some tips that you can use when choosing a good and healthy puppy.
Breed background
You most likely have a specific dog breed in mind. A good way to make sure you get a healthy puppy is to read and research about the breed. Know their weaknesses and strengths and look out for common illnesses. Some early signs and symptoms of illnesses can be spotted in puppies. By doing your homework, you would know what to look for and what to avoid.
Choose one that is active
Actives puppies are usually healthy puppies. Young dogs are like babies, they like to explore the area, move around, and get into things. When at the kennel, ask the dog handler if you can check puppies that are in an open area or if you can let them run around first before picking one out. Observe them and spot one that seems to be very excited and plays around.
Check the puppy’s medical history
When the puppy was born, did it have any abnormalities? Was the vet able to give it a check up? Did the mother have any problems while carrying and giving birth to them? These little details can save you a lot of hassle. It’s better to find out if there is something wrong with the puppy now then becoming worried about it later.
Also check the parent’s medical history
Many common dog illnesses, such as degenerative myelopathy, cancer, and arthritis, are carried in the genes of canines. Illnesses like degenerative myelopathy only manifest after the dog is already a few years older. It’s best to check if the puppy’s blood line has a history of illnesses and disease. This way, you can be prepared if signs and symptoms would be seen on the dog after a few years.
Go to a kennel or registered breeder
As much as possible, go to a kennel or a registered breeder when getting a puppy. The dogs here are well taken care of and usually come complete with vaccinations and anti-rabies shots. You are also assured about the dog breed and bloodline.

Pet Dog

Favorite Pet
The origin of dogsDogs are carnivorous mammals that have undergone a change from being wolves since 15,000 years ago or maybe more. Whereas the wolf is a wild beast, their descendants we now know as dogs became docile and obedient, after hanging out for a long long time with humans.
Dogs are popular pets because of their loyalty, obedience and intelligence. Some dogs also functioned to aid workers, hunters, herders and rescuers. Among the police, the dog is used as a tracking device or detector because of their sharp sense of smell or to disable a criminal. On the farm, dogs are used for herding cattle and sheep kept the livestock safe together. At home the dog functions as guards, friends and even guardians of children's playgrounds to keep children from playing too far from home. So the pet dog is the most special pet people can have.
Some types of dogs have a unique form, funny or behave in such ways that they are treated and nurtured like a baby, of the puppy-dog kind: Miniature Schnauzer, Border Collie, English Selter and many more.
