Dogs and the Supernatural
Dogs have long been linked with the supernatural, a status which comes from the dog’s acute senses of hearing, smell and taste.
The 1982 classic family sci-fi feature, E.T., directed by Steven Spielberg and starring a younger Drew Barrymore, managed to highlight the dog’s inherent awareness of the strange and alien (literally, in the case of E.T.).
The 2009 “Tails of the Afterlife” book, written by Peggy Schmidt, compiles a number of unexplainable situations where a dog or pets are interacting with someone or something that is not visible.
One of the book’s tales tell of how Del Johnsen, who died leaving behind six cats and seven dogs, allegedly “visits” her pets on a regular basis, with witnesses noting that the pets would, at one point in time, gather around in a circle in one spot, displaying indicators of affection, with cats pleasantly purring and dogs wriggling in excitement and enjoyment.
Even Schmidt, in one entry, confesses that her dog often reacts to venues which are rumored to be haunted.
Though acute senses are oftentimes ascribed to be the cause of a dog’s “misinterpreted” reactions, biologist Rupert Sheldrake, in his book “Dogs That Know When Their Owners Are Coming Home and Other Unexplained Powers of Animals: An Investigation”, explores the dynamics of dogs and other pets for a period of five years, and concludes that "there is a strong connection between humans and animals that lies beyond present-day scientific understanding."
What say you? Think dogs really do have the senses that links them to the afterlife? Or are they just born with too sensitive senses, with humans simply misinterpreting their reactions?

Alaskan Malamute Pet Dogs
Alaskan Malamutes are a breed of Arctic dog, the largest, in fact. This dog has a physical characteristic similar to wolves, but Alaskan Malamutes have a very calm temperament and is obedient to its owner.
The Alaskan Malamute is named after the Mahlemut Inuit of the Arctic coast of Alaska. The Malamute was developed as a sled pulling dog necessary for the Mahlemut eskimos' nomadic lifestyle, where the dog aslo found a role in aiding the Mahlemut to hunt bears and seals (as blow hole spotters). This happened thousands of years before histories came to be written, as the Alaskan Malamute is now classified as one of the fourteen oldest dog breeds in the world. They may look like wolves, but they are very different from wolves.
At first the dogs were used as sled pullers in the snow in Alaska, but Alaskan Malamutes are now sought after as a pet dog, because they are loyal, sweet, very affectionate, nimble inside the house, and great with kids old enough to handle them.
This dog does have a physical form which is very interesting. Alaskan Malamutes look like a heavier, more powerful version of the Siberian Husky (although, in Alaskan Malamutes, standards groups think blue eyes are a fault). While Siberian Huskies are speedy and fine boned, Alaskan Malamutes are more able to meet tests of strength and endurance.
As shown in the pictures here, Alaskan Malamutes have a thick, dense fur coat, because Alaskan Malamutes come from cold temperate regions. Alaskan Malamutes have a coat color various shades of gray and white, black and white, black and white, red and white, or solid white.
Alaskan Malamutes are a medium sized dog, according to the American Kennel Club (AKC) breed standard calls for a variety of natural size, with a desired height of 23 inches (58.4 cm) at the withers and 75 pounds (34 kg) for females, 25 inches (63.5 cm) and 85 pounds (39 kg) for males. Heavier individuals (90 lb (41 kg)) and dogs smaller than 75 pounds (34 kg) are commonly seen. Often there is a marked difference in size between males and females. Alaskan Malamutes reach a top weight of 120 pounds (54 kg).
A 2004 UK Kennel Club survey (based on a 64-dog sample size) reported that Alaskan Malamutes commonly suffer hip dysplasia and hereditary cataracts.
Alaskan Malamutes are also susceptible to inherited polyneuropathy, heart defects, chondrodysplasia, and other eye problems like progressive retinal atrophy).
The UKC survey also identified cancer (36%) as the leading cause of death among Alaskan Malamutes while, for Americans, that’s only the second leading cause of death behind heart disease (2009 data). Maybe people should start pulling sleds.

Accidental Explosion over at Pet Sense
The YouTube Channel’s latest video series, Pet Sense, started with a bang, literally.
Positioned as an animal-oriented feature program, Pet Sense is a series which highlights a pet/animal communicator who tries to resolve the problems of pet owners and pets, dealing with different unique pet habits, traits and quirks.
Yogi, a Corgi, had a problem with household cleaning products, going nuts with them whenever they’re around. So, pet owner Hali Hudson figured he could do well with some help from Pet Sense, to which the program responded to the positive.
However, Yogi’s earnest penchant for cleaning products got the best of everyone while Hudson was showing Yogi’s “thing” on camera.
Seeing the cleaning products stored under Hudson’s kitchen sink, the Corgi charged into the “fray”, attacking whichever item his jaws could find. Unfortunately, one of those items included a can of spray paint!
Kitchen/household cleaning products + can of spray paint… nuff said.
Puncturing the can, an explosion followed, not only leaving the doggy covered in paint, but following it up with a minor fire. Thankfully, no one including Yogi was harmed after the incident, with the Corgi brought to the vet for further checks.
Comments over the video range from “idiotic” to “stupid”, with most expressing that Hudson should’ve taken steps in ensuring that such products would be difficult for the dog to reach. Hudson, well aware of how things are, has taken the necessary steps in keeping such dangerous household products from Yogi.
The incident was quite an eye-changer, but the Corgi is still adamant in his “thing” for cleaning products. It may not have resolved his “condition”, but hey, at least he’s a-okay.

Pet Dog

Favorite Pet
The origin of dogsDogs are carnivorous mammals that have undergone a change from being wolves since 15,000 years ago or maybe more. Whereas the wolf is a wild beast, their descendants we now know as dogs became docile and obedient, after hanging out for a long long time with humans.
Dogs are popular pets because of their loyalty, obedience and intelligence. Some dogs also functioned to aid workers, hunters, herders and rescuers. Among the police, the dog is used as a tracking device or detector because of their sharp sense of smell or to disable a criminal. On the farm, dogs are used for herding cattle and sheep kept the livestock safe together. At home the dog functions as guards, friends and even guardians of children's playgrounds to keep children from playing too far from home. So the pet dog is the most special pet people can have.
Some types of dogs have a unique form, funny or behave in such ways that they are treated and nurtured like a baby, of the puppy-dog kind: Miniature Schnauzer, Border Collie, English Selter and many more.
